Miami Marlins Recall Graham Pauley to Solidify Third Base

The Miami Marlins recalled Graham Pauley from Triple-A Jacksonville to solidify the third base spot in their lineup.

Pauley was called up as a corresponding move to Connor Norby being sent down on Friday.

What happened?

The Marlins made this move leading up to a road game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Pauley had been sent down on June 2 and in 17 games with the Jumbo Shrimp, he knocked in six doubles, 11 RBI, and an .813 OPS.

Why it matters for Miami Marlins

Norby was the Marlins' starting first baseman on Opening Day despite being a third baseman since being acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in 2024.

Norby batted .205 with a .638 OPS, 12 doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 24 walks in 233 plate appearances through 65 games this season.

The Marlins have seen Heriberto Hernandez become a different player upon being sent down for a short stint in Triple-A Jacksonville.

What comes next?

The Marlins are finishing their most successful month of the season on the road at St. Louis and Colorado.

Miami went from ending May with a season-long five-game losing streak to winning six of seven series to pull above .500 with a 42-39 record and within two games of the final National League playoff spot.

As of June 24, the Marlins stood 8th in the National League with a 42-39 record, on a W2 streak, after beating the Texas Rangers 4-2.

Max Meyer takes the ball for the Marlins against Dustin May and the Cardinals, with Meyer boasting an 8-0 record and a 2.80 ERA.

Prospect Watch

No. 9 prospect Kemp Alderman leads the Marlins organization in home runs after hitting his 12th homer of the season in Triple-A Jacksonville’s 10-4 win over Memphis on Thursday.

No. 8 prospect Cam Cannarella extended his hitting streak to 10 games during Double-A Pensacola’s 10-3 loss against Chattanooga on Thursday.

The Marlins have been outscoring their opponents by 32 runs, 99-67, in June, with a 16-5 record, the best in MLB this month.

Hernandez hit six home runs while Kyle Stowers knocked in five dingers in June, encouraging the Miami faithful that he has returned to All-Star status.
